Tampa Senior PHotos | Simple Prop Ideas for Senior Pictures
My family is lucky enough to know this graduating senior and her family very well. She is just the sweetest, happiest, and most gorgeous girl, too. We had so much fun with her senior pictures. There is just something special when your friend is with you as you document their first high school grad, right? We picked this location and while we were a little surprised by the prescribed burn that changed the field a bit since I was last there for a senior photo session (here), we honestly had fun in a different area of the park. The little wild flowers that matched her outfits were an added bonus. I also picked up some flowers based on her wardrobe choices, too. I also talked her into wearing her prom dress, the long pink floral dress, as I just LOVED it. We had a great time just tearing off the flowers I brought and letting them fall in her hair as I took a few stunning portraits from above. I mean, her eyes could not be any more stunning! I loved that every idea I suggested she was more than excited to try. Going into your senior session with an open mind and willingness to try something can often result in more interesting variety of photos and honestly, a lot more photos to choose from! If you don’t try something new, and give the same smile the whole time, there are only so many photos I can put in the gallery, right? So relax and trust me.
PROP IDEAS:
Are you already thinking of your senior photos for next year? Listen up for some senior photo ideas! I am NOT a big prop photographer. Honestly, I just love to focus on you rather than “stuff.” BUT, I love having a little prop for seniors to use because sometimes we just don’t know what to do with our hands when getting our pictures taken, am I right? It helps senior loosen up a bit, and I get it being the center of the photo attention is not for everyone, so I am all for helping seniors relax at their Tampa senior photo session.
So, often times I recommend bringing something speical to youwith you. This can be something to announce your college choice, like a banner, or pennant, or hat. Or, it could be something important to your life in high school; for example, your instrument or sporting outfit/gear. It can also be your favorite book or even your grandma. Whatever is special to you!
I spend some time getting to know seniors before we have our session to know their style. That way I can also bring items that work for them, too. This could be flowers to match your dress, or biodegradable glitter to match your high school colors or even your college of choice colors as well. Oh, and of course if you do your session in later spring, you likely will have picked up your cap and gown, too. Those are always timeless photo props for graduation! If you do your session in fall or before gown destribution, you can always try to find a previous year grad to let you borrow theirs, too! Other props for seniors that I love are pets. Pets are always encouraged if they do well out and about and don’t get car sick on the way…just check beforehand so we make sure your photo location allows pets!
Click here for more details on biodegradable glitter choices. Amazon has so many options and I usually have a pack in my bag.
Oh, and let’s talk film. I did finish up a few rolls of film on my seniors this spring, too. A fun and creative way to document senior photos that is timeless and so much fun to wait for the surpise when they come in on scan day! Below are a few faves on film.
Congrats to Miss A! You are off to big things and we can’t wait to keep cheering you on. If you are here for her leave her some comments of encouragement below and help her earn an 8x10 print with comments, too!
In an effort to support other photographers, I am sharing a blog post from a fellow photographer, based in Minnesota. Her blog is about locations for Twin Cities family photoshoots about photo sessions in the Twin cities
